Choosing the Right Student Tool
Start by identifying what you need to accomplish: check a calculation, plan your study time, review language, organise notes or understand a writing task. Read each tool’s description before opening it, and avoid uploading personal, confidential or unpublished research unless you understand the provider’s privacy and data-handling practices.
Check accuracy and limitations
A calculator is only as reliable as the inputs and assumptions used. Recheck units, formulas and rounding, and compare important results with course materials or another trusted source. Writing and language tools can miss context, change meaning or suggest inaccurate claims. Review every suggested change yourself and retain the evidence needed to support your work.
Use tools in line with your course rules
Institutions set their own rules for collaboration, proofreading, translation and generative AI. Before using a tool on assessed work, check your module brief and university policy. Do not submit generated text, fabricated references or unverified calculations as if you had independently confirmed them. Where disclosure is required, follow the instructions given by your institution.
